First GTM hire. Open conversations with the teams building the next generation of AI companions, characters, and B2B2C agents — and run them to a signed engagement.
About the Role
Sonzai is the relationship layer for consumer AI. Companion apps, character platforms, games, tutoring products, B2B2C agent networks — they all need memory, personality, and continuity that doesn't reset every session. We sell to the people building those products.
You'll be our first dedicated GTM hire and the founders' counterpart on every active pipeline. The buyers are technical — founders, heads of AI, staff engineers — so the conversation is technical from the first reply. You demo, you scope, you write the proposal, you bring the right engineer in at the right moment, and you close.
This is not a quota-and-burndown SDR seat. It's a founding GTM role with full visibility into product, pricing, and roadmap. You shape who we go after and how we say it.
What You'll Own
- Outbound + inbound pipeline — Source target accounts (companion apps, character platforms, games, tutoring, B2B2C agent networks), open the conversation, qualify, and run discovery.
- Technical discovery & demo — Walk a CTO through the Relationship Layer, the SDK, and the integration shape that fits their stack. You can speak to memory, personality, mood, retrieval, and where Sonzai sits in their architecture.
- Scoping & proposals — Translate a customer problem into an SDK engagement, a forward-deployed build, or a B2B2C deployment. Write the proposal at proposals.sonz.ai with a founder.
- Close & hand-off— Negotiate, close, and run a clean hand-off to the FDE who'll deliver. Stay in the loop through go-live.
- GTM systems — Build the CRM, the sequences, the pipeline dashboards. The first iteration of every system here is yours.
- Voice of the market — Bring back what the market actually wants. The roadmap leans on what you hear.
What We're Looking For
- Technical sales experience at a developer-platform or infrastructure company — you've sold APIs, SDKs, or AI/data platforms to technical buyers.
- Comfortable in a deep technical conversation — you can read a code sample, talk through latency and retrieval trade-offs, and hold your own with a CTO without paging in a founder.
- Track record of closing — early-stage, founder-led environments. You've been the first or second GTM hire somewhere and you know what that actually feels like.
- Writer's instinct — your cold opens get replies, and your proposals get signed. We can read your writing.
- Hustle without theater — you don't need a playbook to start, and you don't confuse activity with progress.
Nice to Have
- Background in or around consumer AI, gaming, character platforms, social products, or developer tools.
- Existing network across the AI builder community in the US, EU, or APAC.
- You've done founder-led sales yourself — built a product, sold it, and lived inside the pipeline.
- Engineering background, even non-current. You don't code for the job, but you can read it.
